$3.2M Plant Expansion

Description

This multi-year project to expand the production capacity of the Laboratory Tops, Inc. facility in Taylor, Texas. I acted as the "General Coordinator" for the equipment & facility expansion necessary to increase the mixing capability by 50% and curing capability by 40%.

This project involved the development of an overall facility and equipment expansion plan, specifications for custom equipment, cost estimating, scheduling, interface with custom equipment suppliers, interface with City departments, and other engineering companies.

Objectives

  • Develop overall strategy and budget for the facility & equipment expansion.
  • Develop specifications for custom built equipment, develop cost estimates, develop budget.
  • Develop candidate suppliers list, evaluate suppliers, obtain quotes, select supplier, coordinate fabrication, inspect and install custom built mixing equipment.
  • Perform Engineering calculations for loads, clearances, equipment sizing, etc.
  • Plan the facility expansion including hydrological studies, utilities relocation, cost estimating, and presentation of plans for City approval.
  • Create all design drawings for new structures, equipment & piping.
  • Verify adequacy of plant utilities, coordinate sizing / relocation with Gas & Electric Utilities.
  • Create & Coordinate Scopes of Work for contractors representing multiple trades.
  • Develop detailed plans for the addition & in some cases relocation of the following types of production & production support equipment: Saws, Gel Ovens, Cure Ovens, Mixing & Batch Tank Module, Pneumatic Conveying Equipment, Dust Collectors, Air Compressors, Refrigerated Dryers, Receiver Tanks, Hot Oil Heaters, Hot Oil Thermal Conditioning Equipment, Overhead Cranes, Custom Built Mixing Stands, Pipe Racks, Catwalks, etc.
